Glass is the most demanding substrate in UV printing: smooth, hard and non-absorbent, it gives the ink nothing to grip. Marabu developed Primer P5 precisely for this substrate.

Primer P5: the Marabu primer built for UV printing on glass
Glass gives ink nothing to grip. Marabu developed P5 precisely for this substrate, for UV digital printing and screen printing alike.

Glass: a premium look, a difficult grip
Bottles, drinking glasses, trophies, decorative panels: glass instantly gives a UV print a premium look. But its surface is closed and perfectly smooth, and the slightest fingerprint or trace of grease makes the ink bead up.
P5 prepares the surface and strengthens the bond between the glass and the UV ink layer. Depending on the ink used, it also improves adhesion on metals, lacquered surfaces and plastics.

One-offs and short runs
By cloth
A thin layer over the whole surface, with a clean, lint-free cloth.
Runs and large surfaces
By spray gun
Spraying for an even film on larger volumes, in a ventilated booth.
Industrial production
In-machine nozzle
The primer can be sprayed directly within the printing line, through a nozzle mounted on the machine.
The rule
A dry substrate, free of grease and fingerprints; apply, wait briefly, print. And always validate on a sample before a run.

Dishwasher-safe glassware
For glassware that has to withstand the dishwasher, Marabu pairs P5 with its Ultra Jet DUV-C UV ink, designed for direct printing on packaging and containers. Depending on the specification, additional glass pre-treatment (flame treatment or silicatisation) may be needed. Preliminary trials remain essential — we can set them up with you.
